Course Information
The HLTAID009 – Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) course is a nationally recognized unit of competency designed to equip individuals with the essential skills and knowledge required to perform CPR in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines. This course is ideal for those who may be called upon to provide CPR in a variety of settings, including workplaces, community environments, and emergency situations.
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
• Understand the principles and legalities of First Aid provision.
• Recognize and respond to emergency situations requiring CPR.
• Maintain the safety of self, bystanders, and the casualty.
• Assess the casualty and recognize the need for CPR.
• Perform effective CPR techniques.
• Seek assistance from emergency response services.
• Use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) safely and correctly.
• Communicate the details of the incident to emergency services and relevant parties.
• Reflect on and review the incident to improve
Apply the DRSABCD (Danger, Response, Send, Airway, Breathing, CPR, Defibrillation) Action Plan for effective first aid response in an emergency.
- Recognise signs of unconsciousness and abnormal breathing in adults, children, and infants.
- Perform CPR techniques on adults, children, and infants, including chest compressions and rescue breaths (following ARC guidelines).
- Safely operate an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) according to manufacturer’s instructions.
- Effectively communicate with emergency services and report the incident following workplace procedures.
- Maintain privacy and confidentiality of the casualty.

ASSESSMENT METHODS
Participants will be assessed through a combination of (i) quizzes (e.g. multiple-choice questions), (ii) practical demonstrations, and (iii) participation in role-play scenarios.
Online pre-study (Quiz):

- Knowledge Assessment: Demonstrate understanding of CPR principles through online quizzes. You will complete online pre-study by going through Videos, Photos and answering questions.
Face-to-Face:

- Practical Skills Assessment: Be evaluated on your ability to perform CPR techniques on adult, child, and infant manikins and first aid skills.
- Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Operation Assessment: Showcase your competency in operating an AED under simulated conditions.
CERTIFICATION
Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment for HLTTAIT009 – Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation by email within 24 hours of completion. This certification is valid for 12 months. Safe Work Australia recommends renewing HLATID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certification every 12 months to maintain the currency of the skills and knowledge. |

To ensure competency, the assessment criteria require learners performing uninterrupted CPR on an adult manikin placed on the floor for at least 2 minutes.
