Course Information

The HLTTAID010 – Provide Basic Emergency Life Support course is a nationally accredited unit that equips participants with the skills and knowledge required to respond to a variety of emergency situations. This course focuses on providing immediate, basic emergency life support, including CPR, in line with the guidelines set by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC). It is ideal for individuals who may need to provide first aid in their workplace, community, or in everyday life.

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Recognize and respond to emergency situations.
  • Perform CPR and other basic emergency life support techniques.
  • Provide first aid for a range of injuries and illnesses.
  • Communicate details of the incident to emergency services and relevant parties.
  • Reflect on and review the incident to improve future responses.

By the end of the completion of the HLTAID010 course, participants will be able to:

  •  Understanding the principles of first aid and the emergency response protocol
  •  Performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated external defibrillation (AED)
  •  Managing medical emergencies including choking, shock, and allergic reactions
  • Addressing trauma-related emergencies such as bleeding control and fracture management
COURSE REQUIREMENTS
  • Age: Participants must be 14 years or older. Those under 18 must provide parental consent.
  • Language Proficiency: Adequate language, literacy and numeracy skills to comprehend course material and complete assessments.
  • Computer Literacy:
  • Have access to a computer with Microsoft Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint installed, and PDF reader capabilities
  • Have access to an internet connection
  • Have access to a smart phone, video camera or web camera
  • Communication: Demonstrate the ability to find and understand workplace policies and procedures, and effectively convey incident details verbally and in writing.
  • Online Pre-study Learning (E-Learning) Learners enrolled in Provide CPR, must complete an online learning module (e.g. multiple-choice questions) before attending practical session. It covers the theoretical aspects of CPR. You will have access to our online Leaning Management System (LMS) to complete online pre-study learning module once your booking is confirmed.
  • Physical Fitness: Physical capability to perform CPR on the floor is required for successful completion. Practical assessments require you performing CPR on the floor on a manikin for at least 2 minutes without interruptions. If you have any medical conditions or special needs that may prevent you doing this exercise, please notify us.
  • Proof of Identity: Learners are required to bring photo ID, such as a driver’s licence or passport on the day of training.
  • USI (Unique Student Identifier): You must provide us with the USI. If you do have not have one, please create your USI here Or give us consent at the time of booking to create your USI.

COURSE DELIVERY MODE

Student should allow themselves for about 6 to 8 hours depending on their capability for completing online modules i.e. by reading and answering questions.

  •  Face-to-face: practical sessions

A 3-hour Face-to-face practical session is conducted in a classroom environment

ASSESSMENT METHODS

Participants will be assessed through a combination of quizzes (e.g. multiple-choice questions), practical demonstrations, and participation in role-play scenarios.

  • Knowledge Assessment: Demonstrate understanding of CPR principles through written or quizzes.
  • Practical Skills Assessment: Be evaluated on your ability to perform CPR techniques on adult, child, and infant manikins and first aid skills.
  • AED Operation Assessment: Showcase your competency in operating an AED under simulated conditions

 

FACTORS TO CONSIDER / GENERAL ILLNESS

To ensure competency, the assessment criteria require learners performing uninterrupted CPR on an adult manikin placed on the floor for at least 2 minutes.

CERTIFICATION

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment for HLTTAID010 – Provide Basic Emergency Life Support by email within 24 hours of completion.

 This certification is valid for three (3) years.

 Safe Work Australia recommends renewing HLATID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certification every 12 months to maintain the currency of the skills and knowledge.
